Training Camp for New Dads

Back in the day, expectant fathers used to sit in the waiting room for the doctor to come out and tell him that he has a beautiful, healthy baby and once everyone is all cleaned up, dad became a part of his child’s life. Well… "times, they are a changing". Men are not just standing around any more to hear what happened. They want to be involved from the start. And this is what this class is about. This 3 hour workshop is a crash course in getting dads-to-be ready for the dubious role of fatherhood.

First time dads will be joined by veteran dads who will show them the ropes on how to feed a baby, change a diaper and safely hold a real live infant. These veterans have just been through their own experience as first time dads and they are going to bring their own babies so that rookie dads get a real hands-on experience. We will also have the expertise of Dr. Bob Nassau, a (semi) retired pediatrician. We want you to hit the ground running and our hope is that this workshop will give you a real sense of what to expect when you become a father for the first time.

Participants will also get a chance to talk about what their experience was like with their fathers and share some of their questions about how to be the best father they can be. Our discussion topics cover what its like starting a new family, financial pressures, relationship changes. We also talk about issues such as safety with the baby, sleeping and how to care for your baby.

Don’t be a sideline dad. Get involved from the start, your family is worth it.

This workshop is free. We will provide a light snack, coffee and juice. For more information, schedule and sign up, contact Josh Miller at 802.254.3742 x172 or by email josh_miller@wsesu.org.

24/7 Dad

24/7 Dad meets Wednesday nights from 5pm-7pm.

It is parenting class for fathers that focuses on developing one’s self by defining what it means to be a man in today’s society, reflecting on our origins, where we came from and learn from each other about how to be the fathers our children need us to be.

The role of fathers has evolved and men are taking on more non-traditional responsibilities at home. As this shift takes place in which more women pursue careers and men stay home with their children, the parental role becomes more balanced. Men are taking a more significant and valuable position in the raising of their children. It is becoming more clear that we, as fathers, are not only having to take on this role, but we are wanting it, so are our children.

Come meet with us and find out more of what we are doing and get signed up for our next class. We welcome all fathers who want to be involved and want their children to have better lives.

This class is free. Child care and dinner will be provided. For more information, schedule and sign up, contact Josh Miller at 802.254.3742 x172 or by email josh_miller@wsesu.org.

Dedicated Dads Group

Dedicated Dads Making A Difference meet every Thursday night from 6pm - 8pm. Childcare and dinner are provided.

This is a group for fathers from all different walks of life who come together to discuss their joys and struggles of being a parent. Meetings have included guest speakers, parent education, and field trips with kids. Often, the most valuable time spent is the chance for fathers to speak with others who can relate to their situation. No one is a perfect parent and life is always changing. We come together so we can let go of what is challenging us and find new, positive ways to be better dads.

If you are interested in checking out the group, just stop by on a Thursday evening. If you would like more information, contact Josh at 254-3742 ext.172, or at josh_miller@wsesu.org.
